California Domestic Partnership

If you are gay or lesbian and have been in a committed relationship for any length of time, you know that same sex couples have as many, if not more, obstacles in building their relationships as straight couples do. In fact, given the hostility that same sex couples often face from society and even from their own families, these relationships should be celebrated as demonstrations of the dedication and commitment possible in all human beings. California has even taken some steps towards recognizing the validity of same sex couples by passing "registered domestic partnership" legislation that grants some of the rights and responsibilities to lesbian and gay couples as marriage does to heterosexual married couples, including adoption and inheritance.

Dissolution of Registered Domestic Partnership

When a Registered Domestic Partnership (RDP) doesn't last, the law provides for the dissolution or termination of the domestic partnership in much the same way as for marital divorce.
